The myth-ridden harbingers of the apocalypse, reavers emerged approximately 50 years ago as humanity was beginning its exploration into deep space. Ravenously violent and bent on the destruction of all human life, the reavers descended upon the human colonies dotting the known galaxy, leaving horrible, mutilated wreckage in their wake. Unprepared, humanity scattered to the fringes, hiding rather than facing the twisted and bestial forces of the reavers war-bands.
Few who encounter reavers directly live to tell about it, but what is generally accepted as common wisdom is as follows: Reavers are human beings, driven to homicidal madness by an unknown agency. Although single-mindedly barbaric in their interactions with humans, they are mentally capable enough to pilot ships and use basic (and unnecessarily violent) weapons. When encountering a human, reavers engage in the most horrific behavior fathomable. There are never any survivors.
“If they take the ship, they’ll rape us to death, eat our flesh, and sew our skins into their clothing. And, if we’re very, very lucky, they’ll do it in that order.”
